Do you have integrity? I am contemplating a new working relationship with a young business woman. We have a verbal agreement and I have kept up my end and provided free services in what was to be in exchange for her assistance. Now, perhaps there is a miscommunication glitch occurring - that is quite possible.
I have reached out to her to discuss my perception and I truly hope that I am wrong. That my perception is off somehow and she can set me straight.
I consider how often the collective 'we' agrees to something and for whatever reason (time constraints, inner challenges, etc.) we just can't 'get to it' and by not communicating with the other party, the perception is that we dropped the ball, or we don't keep our word, or...?? Even if that perception is not accurate, it is the reality for the person on the other end.
I would suggest we allow a breath and consider all commitments (even the ones made with the best of intentions) before we give our word.
And, if we find we've made a commitment we cannot keep (life happens), we have the courtesy to communicate that to the other person quickly so they may consider other options.
If we can't keep our word, people lose faith in us.
