Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa........ OMPH! Lets see where do I begin. I have been telling the story of HerStory for many years in this life and probably many years in other lives. The Feminine Voice exists within my soul and shares my very Being. It is She that has connected me with BraveHeart Womyn. It is She that inspires me to spell Womyn in such a way as not to compare us with the masculine gender. It is She that pulls and prods me to continue to 'bring the womyn together while inspiring them to dance!'.
Please prepare yourself to hear an unusual story of the beginning of our human experience. I will be referring to our bodies and our initial understanding of life in a way not normally expressed. Please allow yourselves to open and hear with your ‘belly’. There is so much truth in the following words. In studying ancient life, we have no proof. Everything is left up to our own interpretations. Let your intuition, your belly and your ancient mind remember. You will know what is true for you…. and so it is.
So, who is She?
Imagine yourself in pre-written times. Before Neolithic and Paleolithic times. Imagine a time before formal language of any kind. I am speaking of life somewhere around 30,000 years ago. Use your imagination. It is the most accurate tool you have. After all, reality starts in the mind :-)
In those times, we walked the earth with the rest of the animals still figuring it all out. We had no stories of the past to guide us. We had no concept of right and wrong. There were no communities, no marriages, no family last name to attach ourselves to. Although our natural and intellectual instinct is to figure out who we are, why we’re here and what happens to us when we are gone; in the day and age that I am asking you to allow your imagination to travel to, our most prevalent thought was of survival. Imagine there was no electricity. No calendars or to do lists or schedules of any kind. Walking the planet was like walking in a constant forest, jungle or desert. Allow yourself to think of a time when there was absolutely no structure. Instinctively we just wanted to stay alive and protected.
Perhaps we learned how to survive by observation. We observed the four legged ones plucking fruit and vegetation from the earth. That seemed easy enough, so we did likewise. We learned what was good or bad for us by experimenting.
We also watched animals eat other animals. That was not so easy. First the animal would have to bleed and then it would die and then we’d be able to consume it. Let me very clear here. In those days, it was not eating in excess, or killing for sport, it was all about survival.
As I said before, in those days there was no concept of ‘good’ or ‘bad’. There was no shame, guilt or glory. Try to imagine that we had the wonder of children while we were adults. Ohhhhh if we could only get that back again, haaaaaaaa, but I digress. Back to HerStory.
In those days, womyn and men witnessed womyn and men in the raw. No clothing. Nothing hidden. We witnessed womyn bleed. The bleeding seemed abundant and …. we did not die. Pause for a moment here. Really try to grasp it. Womyn bled and didn’t die. In fact, their bodies seemed to go back to normal easily. This was awe. This was AMAZING! This was even a bit frightening.
Even bigger than womyn bleeding and not dying, without the knowledge of sperm and egg, we witnessed womyn grow big bellies and after a time, little people came out from their loins! Shock, Fear, Excitement, Wonder and above all else a sense of humble awareness at the Feminine Being. Our natural instinct and the beginning of our knowledge and imagination of a creator was that it was of Feminine Essence. After all, Life came out of Her.
I’ve done it! I’ve said that womyn bleed as opposed to saying, ‘our period’ or our ‘menstrual cycle’. I know exactly how uncomfortable that sounds to many of us. I find it so interesting that we can speak of many of our body’s functions, but to actually mention that we ‘bleed’ is a taboo. It’s unacceptable to really talk about it. A womyn’s blood and the cycle of her bleeding is at the core of everything she is. Thousands of years ago, whole societies created their calendars by it. Whole societies honored a womyn’s pre-bleeding days when she is so filled with intuition, emotion and wisdom. Yet, we hide it, camouflage it, take pills to take away it’s precious psychic gifts and it disturbs me to say, that we dam it as if it is a mistake or an illness. Among womyn and girls, we can be private. For sure, our hygiene makes it necessary for us to explain to girls what is about to happen to them. The thing is that it is not just physical. When we learn to ignore our bleeding and the phases of our bodies, minds and spirits, we set ourselves up for a miserable passage from a bleeding womyn (or our ‘Mother’ stage) to a non-bleeding elder (or our Crone stage). Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D., in her book The Wisdom of Menopause says, “The ‘change’ is not simply a collection of physical symptoms to be ‘fixed’, but a mind-body revolution that brings the greatest opportunity for growth since adolescence”. I highly recommend any and all of her books and audios as she integrates science and medicine with knowledge of the Feminine.
Honoring our blood and our cycle allows us to understand who we are as womyn. When I listen to Ellie Drake in the Female Quantum Journey courses, I am thrilled that She is bringing our focus to the Feminine Physique. As feminine creatures, understanding our bodies and how our body communicates to us is core in understanding how to live fully and express fully. Our bodies are regulated by the Moon and the entire atmosphere that surrounds us. As womyn, it is evident that we are connected to and part of creation. We are cyclical just like the seasons, the Moon and the vegetation on our planet. We fill and express and fill and express and fill and express over and over again. So does everything that gives life on this planet. Fruit and vegetation come and go from the same plant over and over and over again. There is so much to re-learn.
This is NOT a feminist writing. This is NOT womyn vs. men. This is the ongoing and necessary story of life when we knew our worth as Feminine Creatures. When we knew and honored our part in life’s creation and ongoing evolution. It is a never ending story of who we are as womyn in our body, mind and spirit. Womyn sat in circle and taught the girls about themselves from the inside out. Grandmother to Granddaughter. How much more respect would our youth have for themselves if we once again shared what it is to be Feminine in totality. A Goddess. A representation of Our Mother, the Life Giving Force. Not Feminine in comparison to a male being
Many books and articles support the fact that before we believed in a God and the Father, the world was focused on the Goddess and the Mother. We were a matrifocal society. Imagine little girls aspiring to their highest potential knowing that they are connect to be that!
Life is Cyclical. At one time it was the voice of the Feminine that moved us. About 8,000 years ago we started to focus on a Masculine Voice. We are so lucky to be living in a time when Her voice is being heard again. Perhaps, finally, we will live in balance with both the masculine and the feminine. And so it is.
I will post facts about our HerStory in my group also named HerStory in the hopes that you will post what you know as well. Life did not start off with cavemen and then womyn being a secondary creature. We are not mankind. We are womyn and men. It may seem so much easier to say mankind. It may seem so much more acceptable to say mankind or cavemen when speaking of our ancient past. But each time we do, although it is subtle, we are making a drastic impression on ourselves and on our daughters.
Open you hearts. Open your Minds. Listen to your bellies. I am wanting to hear what you have to say.
All Love to You Always,
