Inspiration can be found in the most obscure places sometimes. Have you ever heard a snippet of a conversation between strangers and thought "Wow!" Or walked past a a bookshelf in the bookstore and just happened upon a book by accident that had a life changing impact on you? From the mouths of babes, as they say, can come profound wisdom.
Well, recently I had just such a happy accident. I seldom look at the store flyers that arrive in my mailbox but today I flipped the pages of advertisement for a housewares store nearby. And that's when I saw it. A colourful little saying that made me smile. "Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly".
With a little bit of internet digging it was easy to find that it was a quote by Ronald Regan, the full quote reading "Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and leave the rest to God." To say that these words made me smile is accurate and yet not nearly complete. It would be more comprehensive to say it slowly bore into my mind - I thought about it, pondered it, questioned it.... it filled my heart - with a desire to adopt it as a life purpose type of statement... and it entangled my spirit - filling me with a warmth and a deep knowing that if each moment could be lived with such openness and honesty then so many issues I worry about would be recognized for just how insignificant they truly are. If each decision I made were to be made through this lens the enthusiasm of my life could be unstoppable.
My wish for you today is that you may: Live simply - enjoy each moment, relish whatever circumstances, embrace 'what is' surrendering 'what you wish it was'; Love generously - be willing to share your heart with all of those you encounter, respond from the heart, embrace each persons uniqueness and individuality, celebrate your differences as well as your shared experience; Care deeply - be willing to engage, to be fully present, to risk disappointment in order to be open to the possibility of greatness; and Speak kindly - being willing to consider that often it is more rewarding to be kind than to prove that you are right, take a moment to reflect on a kind word that someone has shared with you and appreciate the magnitude of that kindness.
Inspiration can be found in some of the most delightful places - when we but listen. Thank you for the inspiration you are always / all-ways.
