Honey bees are among the most important insects in the world, and as such, people should be extra careful with preserving bee population. Unfortunately, the news about honey bees is not so good lately. Basically, bees are on brink of extinction. Mankind is undoubtedly extremely advanced in technology, but when it comes to nature, we run far behind.
Shocking Facts About the Honey Bee Population
Einstein ones said: “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.” Yap, if we are not careful with the precious bees, this might be the end, literally.
It's funny how instead of calling a professional pest exterminator for taking care of a beehive in their houses or gardens, people kill them which is fatal for bee population. You can imagine what would happen if every house that has a problem with bees kills them, right? Fortunately my neighborhoods in Melbourne just relocate them. Why is their existence so crucial? Bees are responsible for the pollination of flowers. In other words, one of the reasons plants grow is because bees pollinate them, so no bees - no plants. A bee visits 5000 flowers for one day! Individual bees tend to focus on one kind of flower at a time, which means it is more likely that pollen from one flower will be transferred to another flower of the same species by a particular bee. Many plants require this kind of pollen distribution in order to produce viable seeds. And since we grow most of the crops for their fruits, you can imagine what would happen if the process of pollination would cease...
Did you know that ...Honey is produced in the bee’s stomach and stored up in the hive. One working bee can produce 1 ½ table spoons of honey for her entire lifetime (6-7 weeks). And a typical honey breed colony has around 30 000 bees. For one year that colony can produce up to 100 kg. of honey. A queen bee can lay up to 1500 eggs a day to ensure the health and longevity of the hive.
You Destroy Nature’s Natural Medicine
So, as you can see, by killing a beehive you destroy up to 100 kg. of honey. And honey itself is very beneficial to our health. It is the best caught medicine because it creates a protective film in your mouth. Also, honey has antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidants qualities that make it ideal for treating wounds. Mixed with the right ingredients (rose oil, lemon, almond oil, etc.), honey could be the perfect hair conditioner and body moisturizer. It could improve seborrheic dermatitis, which is a scalp condition that causes dandruff and itching, if you mix it with warm water and apply it on your scalp. And last but not least, the royal jelly! The list of benefits for consuming it is so long that we can discuss it all day. But since I'm limited, I will mention only few of them - honey stimulates memory and mental function, helps reduce cancer causing estrogens, and increases physical strength.
Now that you know why bees are so important to mankind, next time you see a beehive, thank Mother Nature for it, instead of destroying it. If you have problems with them in your property simply ask the expert pest exterminators to safely relocate them and preserve their colony.
