I met Barbara approx. 14 years ago, I was holding Conscious Living Circles at my home and Barbara Joy was to be our facilitator and teach me how to facilitate
My doorbell rings and because I had already unlocked the door I heard it open and the sound of laughter filled my hallway. There she was calling my name Adrienne like I was her best friend, this older women in her late 70’s with piercing blue eyes holding out her arms to embrace me while stating “My name is Barbara Joy and its so good to meet you. She became an instance friend to me just like she did with so many. Barbara Joy lit up when she met you, her laugh was infectious, she was Joy in motion..
Every time she saw me, she would say my name with such enthusiasm and love I would sometimes look behind me to see if there was another Adrienne she was welcoming, she saw ME, my Soul always.
Barbara had been a dance teacher, she owned her own studio’s for over 40 years, she loved to move and get others to move with her, she believed moment healed everything and brought everyone together, she encouraged everyone.
Barbara adopted the name Joy on her 70’s birthday, she introduced herself as Barbara Joy as that was the vibration she wanted to lead with not get to.
She was my teacher, my inspiration and my friend.
Today we celebrated her life and in pure Barbara Joy style she wrote and directed her good byes from this lifetime with music and movement. Barbara wanted to give her only daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends a day of “Joy”. She had visited her minister 2 years ago and give exact details on how she wanted her “celebration of life” to flow.
Our opening song was “Blue Danube Waltz” and yes she requested we dance, We sang “ I hope you dance” and recited “The Rosebud” by Myrtle Fillmore. Her family spoke, sharing family stories of this amazing women’s life. Yes we danced, we sang and we cried, however mostly we celebrated knowing that Barbara Joy was watching with that twinkle in her blue eyes while laughing with the angels and teaching them to dance.
Barbara would have been 90 yesterday 1/2/16 and she was looking forwarded to that day however realized that her body no longer could dance so she choose to leave.
For closing Barbara’s requested “My Way” https://youtu.be/6E2hYDIFDIU to say goodbye to all of us and I swear I heard her singing with us and for sure I know she was dancing.
So tonight look for the brightest star in the sky that one twinkling with JOY and say thank you to Barbara Joy for being herself and dancing to her own tune with no regrets.
