If you look the whole world over, in my experience, everyone is looking to be happy. While the expression of happiness may vary greatly in this vast, spacious, diverse universe, that we all seek it, I would say, unites us!
Also in my experience, I feel we are being bombarded with messages on how and where to find happiness as though it were out there somewhere and if we just look hard enough, or look a certain way, or amass enough wealth, or get into the right relationships, we will finally have it. From standing in line at the grocery market reading the magazine headlines to the radio, to TV commercials, right down to our own personal social media pages, the message is loud and clear -- that happiness is something to strive for!
For many years I did everything I had been lead to believe would bring me happiness. Changed jobs, changed partners, changed social groups. Worked out, joined clubs, bought clothes, took seminars, went to retreats -- always thinking happiness was just around the corner! Sometimes I would feel happy momentarily or maybe ever for a little while, but alas, this slippery happiness would always slip away again!
I am a firm believer in the old saying, " When the student is ready, the teacher will appear! This has certainly been true in my life. I was blessed to align myself with a brilliant, loving teacher who pointed me toward happiness as an inside job. Not only is happiness and inside job, but we are actually hardwired for happiness! Isn't that good news!! The particles of energy that make up existence have a nature -- and -- their nature is expansion, light, and harmony! Is it any wonder that we all seek happiness! It is part of the design of life. To quote a friend, "Life is on our side!"
