PAY IT FORWARD

   THE GIFTS WE PASS ALONG!

This is such a sweet topic! Many many times, in my experience, I have received assistance and encouragement, knowing that it would never be possible for me  to "pay it back."

A few years ago, Helen Hunt, and Kevin Spacey were featured in a film entitled PAY IT FORWARD. If you have not seen it, I encourage you to. (Have Kleenex handy) The principle depicted so well in the film is summarized by: Do what you can for someone you can assist. Ask them not to pay you back, but to seize the next opportunity they have to assist another.

We would all be assisted if you will "Pay Forward" and share with us an experience that embodies this principle.

Thank you in advance for the gifts that will gather here.

 My PAY IT FORWARD story:

Two Hundred GaMillion Tries - The Gift of Jim Goodwin

When I was a kid in a little suburb in Illinois, kids rode bikes! Bikes were the deal! Bikes were a kid's FREEDOM! Early in my life, I had had an accident, and my dad wasn't so sure I'd ever have the co-ordination and strength in my right leg to be able to pedal a bike. It was tender territory for him, because he  (mistakenly) felt responsible for the mishap that had left me compromised. After considerable tries, dad bacame discouraged about my ever becoming successful as a peddler.

and...... I knew he was wrong....*breath*

And Jim Goodwin knew he was wrong. Quietly..., patiently..., repeatedly..., Jim sat a 6 year-old Linda on the bike seat, steadied it, and ran behind it pushing, assisting me to find my balance, and believing I could take off on my own. I can not tell you how many evenings, after a hard day at work, Jim was in front of our house, actively believing that I could ride that bike, steadying, pushing, cheering, comforting, correcting, encouraging, and doing it again. ....and then... I was riding....by myself....no one holding me up, I was taking off down the street on my own!   Pure ELATION!

Each time I have ridden a bike, I have personally paid tribute to Jim Goodwin. He was just another dad on my street, who never stopped believing I could ride that bike! Did he ever know he set the stage for my future tenacity and confidence? I hope so!

I can not teach Jim Goodwin to ride a bike, but I can have faith in someone who is challenged, and steady them, and push them, and cheer them, and comfort them, and correct them, and encourage them, and do it again ... for as long as it takes. Remembering Jim Goodwin, I can pay it forward, gratefully.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Who Would Like to be Cropped?

I Am Making a "Pay It Forward" Offer Here

When we were all in Atlanta in May, Danny Mustafic, our terrific Webmaster, was very kind    one evening after a long busy day. He sat in the lobby of the Atlanta Airport Hilton, at midnight, and very graciously walked me through some basics of photo editing, and how to best use photos on this site. He had had a long day, with another long day ahead of him, and he did this for me. Thank You Danny!

I returned home, and started playing around with my photo software, and got good results, with the help of his instruction. This is something I am happy to pay forward, BraveHearts! If you are challenged with your slide show, or the image in your bio. I will be happy to Pay it Forward, and assist you.

I invite you to read on - this is a inspiring blog!!

Pass the Plate!

We have a little "pay it forward" going on in our family. Mom will send me some chicken soup in a container. I'll make some chili and send it on to one sister in the container. She'll make some shortcake and send it on to another sister. She'll make some casserole and send it on to our brother in the same dish. Finally, brother ends up putting some garden hot peppers in it and sending it back to Mom and Dad. It's a fun thing, especially if the dish doesn't follow the loop and you find it coming back to you six months later! Blessings to all!

What a tasty family tradition! Thanks Dawn. Linda

The Gift of Giving

Linda, you are paying it forward with so many of the Braveheart Women. I hope you know what a tremendous impact of encouragement, leadership and inspiration you are to us. You are a "Pay it Forward" story. May God continue to bless us with your wisdom and caring.

Fanning the Flames

Rebcca - I appreciate that - and - I know that everyone of us has an example of how this principle has enriched our lives. I feel that it is the Vision of this Community to bring about a more peaceful world. I know that together, we can plant a seed that will grow to blanket the world in kinder thought and more benevolent action.

I sense that this post has somewhat backfired on me. I find myself very hesitant to post the comments it is bringing in because the intention was not to illicit praise for myself, but to bring us all into a reverie where an inspirational instance surfaces and we are compelled to share.

I am experiencing great joy in getting to know my fellow BraveHearts. Each of us holds within us a unique spark. It feeds my heart and soul when I am able to fan the flame. I encourage you, Rebecca, to leave here an account of something in your very varried experience (Ms.BraveHeart Mom, Wife, Rodeo Champion, Equestrian, Poet and more) to inspire me and everyone else. And, I am very happy to have inspired you....believe me...it is a win-win.

Much Love, Linda

The Gift of Terry Grahl

Terry Grahl believes in divine intervention. In the past six months, she's worked with close to 100 angels. Earlier this year, the 39-year-old interior decorator and owner of an design shop, was asked by a friend to help women battling homelessness and abuse. She made a visit to their shelter in Pontiac and left inspired."I walked into a bedroom, which the women share, It was as if the room was screaming out, 'Save me!' I knew I had found my calling — a passion and purpose.  The used nursing-home bedspreads could not comfort them on days when they just didn't want to go on. Stained towels, sheets, mattresses and pillows reminded me of how their souls must feel"  Admittedly,Terry Grahl is not an ordinary interior designer."I believe cozy surroundings not only inspire, but help us thrive. When I left (the shelter) that cold, wintry day, I was determined and inspired to help 50 battered women who live at the shelter with their children."

Most residents are in a year long program, recovering from drug dependency and abuse. With the help of her sister and assistant, Tracy Garrett ,she volunteered to perform a massive makeover. Terry and Tracy dubbed the project "Hopeful Haven."

Terry, who said before this project she
used to be shy, contacted professional painters, artists and area businesses, and raised close to $200,000 in donations, furniture and equipment to revamp the dilapidated living quarters. "I sent out e-mails and letters and made phone calls to people I thought would help," she said.

She heard the word "no" more than once, but that didn't deter her.

One time while visiting the shelter, one of the residents referred to Terry as an "angel," A modest mother of four, Terry said the real angels are the contributors who helped make the makeover a success. On June 18, the women's bedroom at Grace Centers of Hope received a garden-style transformation. Terry believes gardening satisfies cravings for fresh air and sunshine. "Gardening soothes our souls and replenishes our spirits," she said. "When we garden, we learn to appreciate the rhythms of the seasons and the patience to wait for spring flowers to bloom, for summer vegetables to ripen on their vines."

A long list of the "angels" who made a difference is posted on Terry's web site.
"I call them angels because I believe God sent them. Ninety angels from all over the world, including
Australia, donated to this makeover. A very, very large furniture store in Michigan  donated all the bunk beds, baby cribs and carpet. A professional painting company donated its services to paint the women's bedroom and stairway, and all the paint was all donated. Color has the power of bringing inspiration and daydreams to life. Also donated were all the materials to revamp the women's bathroom. The total cost was $7,000." This BraveHearted woman was determined to create a bedroom that would enable the sheltered women to awaken to a room that would remind them every day:

"I am precious.
I am worthy.
I am not a victim.
I have the power to stop the torch of abuse and addictions
from being passed on to my children."

She crafted a homemade sign for above the women's front bedroom door. It reads:

"Hopeful Haven."

"This sign represents a brand new chapter in the women's lives and the spirit of the room,"

Terry believes the most touching thing found in the room are photographs of the women who currently live at the shelter."They were placed on the wall so that all the future women who find their way to safety will know there is hope," she said.

"I believe in myself more. I didn't realize how much strength I have. I have always been shy, but even a raindrop can make a ripple effect."

I want everyone to know that all it takes is one person to say,

"I want to make a difference."

 Many Blessings,
Terry Grahl

Even Raindrops Can Make A Ripple Effect

Fellow Bravehearts, we are blessed with this story as a result of a Digg POST. Terry saw the Blog and asks if I would like to post this "Pay It Forward" story. I told her I would be honored to.  View this video! You will be inspired!

It strikes me that I can find the Pillars of Vision, Purpose, Contribution, Training, and Promotion within her story. May we all nurture our seeds of greatness as she has. Thank you Terry for "Paying Forward" your insspiration. You embody the spirit of a BraveHeart Women. Linda

Spreading Aloha Around the Globe!

Aloha BraveHeart Sister Linda! Here's my story of how I pay it forward.

I lived and worked in Japan for several years as an English teacher. I knew some of the language, but was not very good at speaking Japanese. I was going through a transition in my life at that time. I lived alone and had no friends or family nearby to go to. Living in a foreign country for the first time, I experienced culture shock, and was homesick for family & friends, the beach, the local food, and reading, speaking and listening to English.

Luckily, I had wonderful co-workers and students who really helped me to survive in Japan. They helped me at the bank to communicate with the tellers, they took me around and shared with me their country, they were there for me when I was going through some rough times, and so on.

Now that I am back in my home country & state, I feel so much appreciation for being an American citizen and for living in the most beautiful state, Hawaii. I became a teacher here and was able to help foreign students adjust to living in a foreign country and be there for them when they had no one else to turn to. Even now, I am so fortunate to be a Homestay mother for a 16 year old student who is from Japan. She lives with us and I am her Hawaiian Mommy. I also learn a lot from her, too, and really enjoy the exchange of culture and aloha. I am able to pay it forward to her and help make her American experience an experience of her lifetime. I trust that she will then go on to pay it forward to someone else and share her aloha with others.

Isn't it wonderful to be able to spread peace and love through one person at a time? We CAN make a difference in this world. It starts with us, and how we interact with others. We CAN make this a more peaceful world by being peaceful ourselves and then sharing that feeling with others.

Thank you for letting me share!

Paying It Forward... the continuing story

Thank you for being You, Linda and continuing to "Pay It Forward." Linda very graciously offered to mentor me, in the business she's in, now mind you, I was in the same business last year and she was not my sponsor. Yet, she wants me to succeed and mentored me many times this past year and is still willing to mentor me. She has well learned the art of negotiating and subtly offers suggestions on how I can improve my prospecting, my voice, my message, and my mindset. She is very knowledgeable. I encourage those of you who don’t know  Linda Carol Berry to get to know her. She even thanked us in advance for the stories and messages we will leave on her blog! Thank you again,  Linda! Lightworker woman

This Linda is a awesome woman! Today she took time out of her very busy life to lend me a hand with my BHWGC site.
